Beverly Hills Cop - inside Victor Maitland's mansion - Commodore Amiga game vs Eddie Murphy movie
Now in stealth mode, Axel tip-toes into the palatial mansion lair of his nemesis, Victor Maitland. Spoiler: he hasn't been invited to a convivial tea party so no Mr Kipling French Fancies or scones. :(
For the fourth and final level of Tynesoft's gaming adaptation, we plunge into the ropey arena of early 3D FPS-ing. A shotgun is our only weapon, while every bland, furniture/decorless floor is identical sans wall colour, so we must rely on the wireframe type map to fathom out where we've already visited and where we need to go next to reach the lift and ultimately 'apprehend' the dodgy art dealer. As we explore, this map is gradually revealed Command and Conquer style, somewhat enhancing the sense of discovery and challenge.
In Tynesoft's defence, they were only granted a few weeks to complete the project due to the company nosediving into administration/receivers moving in to scavenge the WIP scraps.
I've got a strange, nagging feeling that I may have omitted a key scene from this comparison. Hmm... can't quite put my finger on it. ;)
