Big Trouble in Little China is a side-scrolling beat ’em up developed by Software Studios and released by Electric Dreams Software for the Commodore 64 in 1987. The game was designed by Mev Dinc and coded by MD Software, tying into John Carpenter’s cult film licence

In this action-packed adventure, you switch between three protagonists—Jack Burton, Wang Chi and Egg Shen—as you battle through Chinatown’s underworld to rescue two kidnapped girls. Enemies attack from both sides, and each character wields unique weapons: Jack’s Bushmaster gun, Wang’s swords (that break), and Shen’s growing magic bolts

The graphics feature large, detailed sprites and atmospheric backgrounds for 1987 C64 hardware; the sound design is sparse but effective, punctuating combat with digitised punches and minimal musical stabs. Unique mechanics include “reverse” right-to-left scrolling—unusual for its genre—and weapon-pickup strategy.
