BLADE RUNNER – Commodore 64 (1985) | CRL's Unofficial Cyberpunk Pursuit
Blade Runner is a 1985 shoot 'em up game developed by Andy Stodart and Ian Foster, and published by CRL Group PLC for the Commodore 64. Loosely inspired by the 1982 film, the game was officially based on Vangelis's iconic soundtrack due to licensing constraints.
Players assume the role of a bounty hunter tasked with tracking down rogue "replidroids" on Earth. Gameplay begins with a top-down map where players locate replicants, transitioning into side-scrolling sequences requiring navigation through crowded streets to eliminate targets. The game features a rendition of the film's music, though limited by the hardware's capabilities.
Despite its ambitious concept, Blade Runner received criticism for its repetitive gameplay and lackluster graphics. Nevertheless, it remains a notable example of early attempts to adapt cinematic experiences into video games.
