"BioMetal," released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993, is a horizontally scrolling shoot 'em up game developed by Athena and published by Activision. Set in a futuristic sci-fi universe, the game offers players fast-paced action, intense shooting mechanics, and a variety of power-ups.

The game's plot unfolds in GC 232 (Galaxy Century Year 232), a time when an ongoing interstellar war has devastated the Milky Way, depleting its natural resources. The Galactic Council dispatches a starship fleet to the nearby planet UP457 in search of resources. However, the fleet is obliterated by the "BIOMETAL," a race of hybrid creatures. A supercomputer predicts the rapid expansion of the "BIOMETALS" and the imminent takeover of the Milky Way within 32 hours. Kid Ray and biologist Anita, crew members of the Halbard, alongside the fleet WASP, are tasked with quelling the hostile threat on UP457.

Gameplay involves obtaining weapon power-ups by destroying pods and collecting released items. These power-ups cycle through various weapon types and can negate each other. A shield, represented by spinning orbs, offers defense against enemy fire. Engaging the shield drains charge power. As players navigate the high-speed action of "BioMetal," they must strategize, adapt to different weaponry, and save the Milky Way from impending doom.

The game features six challenging levels, each with its own unique design and enemies. Unique to the European and North American versions of "BioMetal" is a soundtrack featuring remixed tracks from the techno group 2 Unlimited's 1991 album, "Get Ready!" Conversely, the Japanese release features an entirely different musical composition.
