"Black Heart" is an arcade game developed and released by UPL in 1991. It is a horizontally-scrolling shoot 'em up game. Taranith, absolute ruler of the Dark Forces, has kidnapped Jeanne. Zil must mount his dragon and take to the skies, assaulting the enemy castle to save her.
Riding atop a powerful dragon capable of spewing fire, the hero embarks on a challenging journey through eight demanding stages of horizontal scrolling action. In addition to waves of enemies and formidable boss characters, players must navigate treacherous environmental hazards and obstacles.
Despite its charming visuals and fantasy ambiance, Black Heart suffers from some cumbersome and clunky mechanics, primarily due to the large hitboxes surrounding the player character and the game's environment. The difficulty ramps up rapidly, but not in a satisfyingly challenging manner, rather in a frustrating way.
