Well, it's the one we've all been waiting for. the fan made Half-Life remake, Black Mesa Source has been release (well, sort of) with up until the Lambda core finally coming out for public enjoyment.
This title is a labour of love, and just like the original Half-Life released all those years ago, starts out Gordon Freeman on a monorail system. Black Mesa quickily shows its differences from the original Half-Life however. Black Mesa's environments have been lovingly recreated and in many ways, improved. Not just from the models and textures.
There are far more detailed areas, with more control consoles, more going on in the general area and the half Black Mesa facility looks far less... quiet.
This first video features all of the gameplay of the monorail system, past the resonance cascade accident and then Black Mesa starts fully. We see Gordon Freeman trying out a new weapon at his disposal - Flares.
The crowbar is NOT present early on, and is instead delayed because of the addition to the flares. The story is told slightly differently, with Black Mesa features a lot more voice talent, and then additionally more music, better sound effects and of course much improved graphics.
Part two sees Gordon Freeman armed, where I get hold of the legendary crowbar and a pistol and start to take on Black Mesa's proper horrors. Hold on to your butts ladies and gentlemen.
