The Man-in-Stone is an optional character quest in Black Myth: Wukong's Chapter 2, where you can unlock the Azure Dust Transformation Spell. To start this questline, head to the Fright Cliff area. You’ll find the Man-in-Stone trapped in a small crevice to the right of the Squall Hideout. He’s easy to miss, but trust me, you don’t want to skip this quest if you want to unlock a powerful transformation spell.
The Man-in-Stone asks you to retrieve an item called Stone Essence, which is in the hands of the Mother of Stones. To find her, head left from the Squall Hideout Shrine and into a large cave. The Mother of Stones is a giant crystal-embedded statue that won’t actually fight you directly—but don’t get too comfortable, because her minions, the Palestones, will definitely try to take you down.
This fight is all about endurance. The Palestones attack in waves, and they’ll come at you with both melee and ranged quartz missiles. In the first couple of waves, you’ll face one Palestone at a time, but by the third wave, you’ll be dealing with two Palestones simultaneously. This is where things get tricky—deflect their projectiles when you can, and don’t be afraid to back off and heal.
After six Palestones are down, the Mother of Stones is defenseless. Finish her off and claim the Stone Essence and other loot. Now, it’s time to return to the Man-in-Stone.
When you bring the Stone Essence back to him, he mocks you for handing it over and reveals his true colors. This leads to a quick boss fight—don’t worry, he’s not much stronger than regular enemies. Immobilize him, build up Focus Points, and use a charged attack to finish him off.
After you defeat him, the Man-in-Stone begs for mercy and burrows back into the ground. This is your chance to harvest the Stone Essence from him again, which transforms into the Azure Dust Transformation Spell. This spell gives you the slow yet sturdy power of the Rock Guai, allowing you to crush your enemies with the might of stone.
