Blades Of Vengeance SEGA Mega Drive Complete Soundtrack CD
PAL 50Hz
A Mega Drive game made in my own country for a change.
Blades Of Vengeance is quite a rare game in the Mega Drive's library and doesn't get alot of mentions in game reviews and in people's top Genesis list of games. It's by no means a bad game, just a title that gets very little recognition. The game is like a cross-over between Golden Axe, Castlevania Bloodlines and amongst others Bram Stoker's Dracula. You have the option to play as one of three warriors Huntress, Barbarian or Wizard to set out to the land and destroy all the evil beings that lay ahead. The game featured a heavy amount of blood which saw some copies to have a mature audience rating on the box cases in certain regions. The game featured very well drawn pixel art with different frames of animation which looked semi-real, I particularly like how the female's platt of hair moves as she walks when she has the armour upgrade.
The game was developed by Beam Software who were housed in Melbourne, Victoria Australia back in the early and mid 1990's and were lucky enough to get their game published by Electronic Arts back in 1993.
If you've played Tom & Jerry Frantic Antics, True Lies or Radical Rex then the music to this game will sound somewhat similar as Blades Of Vengeance music is done by one of the same music programmers, the only difference here is that Blades Of Vengeance uses BIG sampled drums which beef up the soundtrack in a positive way.
The music is great and catchy! It's keeps a solid beat pumping through out most of the tracks which should keep you jiving on your living room dance floor. The soundtrack sits somewhere in between 80's rock and metal and electronic synth pop but relies heavily on music modulation and signature key changes as heard in nearly all the boss tracks and even the ending credits theme. Simple melodies without much overlapping of lead chords but heavy on music modulation of keys. If you like the music to Tom & Jerry, True Lies or Radical Rex then Blades Of Vengeance should get you jizzing in your pants.
This is a soundtrack i've wanted to record for years and years but was never able to record all of it due to the game not having a sound test, yeah I can play through the game and stop on each level and record the tracks but then the ending theme is unrecordable due to the ending showing God destroying all the evil from the land and hearing a loud annoying sound effect covering the music. Years later I was finally able to record this game's ost without any sound effects intervening. I used game genie cheats to record this soundtrack which would play a certain track on the scrolling title screen with each code. I done this on the Mega EverDrive X 7. I do own a copy of this game on a single cartridge shaped like an EA cartridge but I don't own a game genie or game shark device so I was forced to use the Mega EverDrive X 7 in order to obtain the game genie music cheats.
