I think this is the most I've ever had to backtrack in a first person shooter just to have enough health and ammo to safely move forward. Granted, there aren't a lot of FPS games that even let you go back to previous levels to do this, but I'm talking about backtracking in general. Knowing that the electro-mutants will slowly seek you out across the entire length of a level is the stuff of nightmares, by the way.

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold is a first person shooter game developed by JAM Productions and published by Apogee Software in 1993 for DOS PCs, and would easily be considered one of the better "clones" of the original Wolfenstein 3D.

In the distant future, the evil Dr. Pyrus Goldfire has been twisting the STAR Institute, and the brilliant scientific minds it employs, toward the creation of genetically engineered mutants. With an army of monsters, Goldfire plans to take over the Earth.. unless Blake Stone, a British secret agent, can stop him!
