To think that the 'BlazBlue' franchise is 15 years old now... In all honesty, I find it hard to believe that this high-definition sprite-based fighting game series made its debut on the same year as 'Street Fighter IV' with 'BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger'.

As you can see right here, this is the PC version of the very first game in the 'BlazBlue' franchise, and yes, it's visually different compared to the PlayStation Portable version which I first played several years ago. Now if you ask me which 'BlazBlue' character is my favorite, then the honor would go to Noel Vermillion. Sure, she can be a ditz at times, but there's no denying that cool factor regarding her gun-based fighting style (which, let's face it, is totally an 'Equilibrium' reference). Also, maybe it's just me, but I prefer her NOL outfit (AKA the one where she wears the beret) from the 'BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger'/'BlazBlue: Continuum Shift' days over her more recent one (which has served as her default outfit from 'BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma' onwards).

Also, something I didn't realize while playing this game is the fact that each character's Astral Finisher (as well as their Unlimited version in which they are significantly buffed in one way or another to the point of being broken) isn't available from the start and can only be unlocked after playing through Arcade mode. In this case at least, only Noel's Astral Finisher and Unlimited mode are unlocked upon playing through Arcade mode once (as Noel, of course, regardless of difficulty). Oh, and did I mention that the inputs for Astral Finishers in this game are rather finicky and/or hard to perform (especially in comparison to later entries)?

So yeah, 'BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger' is a rather quirky fighting game in retrospect (what with the relative lack of game modes and all), but hey, every fighting game franchise has to start somewhere, right?
