Three explosions, around 200-400 blocks of dynamite stacked either all around on the land, vertically underneath it, into the sky, or a combination of all of the above.

The Java engine doesn't seem to be able to handle explosions of a large magnitude. I've seen other videos where the game completely freezes for a few seconds during detonation. The lag can't really be helped.

One of the takes (not shown here) I tunneled underneath the mountain and made a redstone trail to a giant stack of dynamite that reached the summit. The intended effect was that the explosions would travel upwards and continue the chain of reactions on top. However, dynamite affects the physics of other dynamite blocks around it, causing them to get knocked around in random patterns, and the first test failed because the stack detonated too slowly and most of the dynamite fell down into a cave creating a giant hole in the center. That is why on subsequent takes I resorted to simply leading a trail up to the side of the mountain instead.

If you're wondering how I got a hold of so much dynamite, I didn't grind creepers. Click here for a Minecraft Inventory Editor: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=15921
