Board Game Discussion - Virtual Conventions
Convention season is upon us! Sort of... The COVID-19 Delta variant is really putting a damper on things, and most cons are going with hybrid in person/online models, decreased capacity, or cancelling altogether. For this video, I wanted to talk about the future of virtual cons!
Moreso than in 2020, major conventions (Gen Con, Essen, Pax, etc.) are not only prepped for, but expect, a large portion of their audience(s) to be attending virtually or otherwise not at the main location of the con. The question then becomes.... what about the future? Will we continue to see this style of convention, since the infrastructure is now there? Or will we go back to just in-person? What's worth it?
Either way, I know that everyone wants to get back to it, myself included. Unfortunately, we all have to remember and understand that, at the moment at least, it's not safe. At the very least, precautions need to be made and kept, and I hope that any of you heading out are doing so! Regardless, as always, I need to know what YOU all think! Do you think virtual conventions are/should be here to stay, and why? Let me know in the comments!
