BONEWORKS Review - The next step for VR
45BONEWORKS is a gripping action virtual reality game, which features a campaign to play through, even including an arena mode and sandbox environment. BONEWORKS combines shooting, melee combat, puzzle solving and climbing segments into one cohesive experience and also vastly improves upon those systems.
The game is as much of a puzzle game as it is an action game. It demands the player to stop and think every once in a while to overcome an obstacle that stands in their way. The game was paced incredibly well, resulting in an ebb and flow between action rich shootouts and downtime segments to relax the player.
The story is bound to arise some questions for the player. While being a bit standard it was presented in an excellent way, in a way comparable to the first Half Life game. You can stop and listen to what certain characters have to say, or move on with the game without paying any attention to what is being said. If you do not care about the story that is being conveyed to you, you can definitely ignore and move past all of it if you wanted to.
In its current state the game has some problems, the biggest of which being a save function. Apparently Stress Level Zero already is working on a mid level checkpoint system for the game, but as it stands right now the lacking save function forces players to replay sometimes hour long levels. This is my only gripe with the game and except for this flaw it excels in almost every point.
Gameplay? Great. Sound? Amazing. Level design? Fun!
Save function? Non existant. And that can be a real deal breaker for many people. But even with that one big flaw, I can wholeheartedly recommend this game. Easily the best game I have played in VR so far.
