Although primarily known for his outings on the PC-Engine console, Bonk (or B.C. Kid) also got a coin-op release in 1994, courtesy of Kaneko. Kaneko used the license to develop something that looks and feels like the traditional Bonk games, and they did a pretty good job.
Here, Bonk must whack enemies and collect the 'smiley' tokens they drop. The more tokens in your possession when you reach the level end, the more bonus points you receive. Getting hit will, much like Sonic and his rings, scatter these token over an area, and it becomes a scramble to grab them before they disappear forever. Discarded tokens may also be swiped by another player (you can play this in co-op), which adds a bit of competitiveness to the proceedings.
The coin-op version of Bonk plays well, looks great, and there's fun to be had here.
