It seems we're too late to stop Steele from opening the Vault, but we can still kill her and take the contents for ourselves... except apparently the Vault contains some kind of hungry alien tentacle monster that just ate Steele and wiped out her entourage of Crimson Lance soldiers. Well that's just great. Guess I'll have to deal with this mess now.

So yea, there is no treasure in the Vault. The only thing inside it is a boss fight and all I have to show for it is a Vault Key, which for some reason Tannis will pay me a fair bit of cash for. But yea, that's the end of Borderlands. Not exactly the greatest ending ever but it's not the worst I've ever seen (that title goes to Lunar: Dragon Song because that ending was far worse).
