What is BotWatch?
- Bot detection system
- Not fully rolled out yet, being expanded over areas
- Cover those areas in different vids
- Nobody knows exactly, explain re-written script + insta detection.
Why isn't BotWatch just put everywhere now?
- Because Jagex need to learn why people are botting certain areas
- How many players are botting in certain areas
- General statistics for a long term solution rather than insta banning
- Idea is to know how to make content better so people are less inclined to want to bot in the future.
Why don't Jagex just Bot "nuke"?
- The previous "nuke" was known as ClusterFlutterer and didn't ban all bots but instead changed the game
code to prevent bots from being able to get "Hooks" (Or item ID's, NPC ID's etc to make botting very hard, but
not impossible, until it's coded around.
- Most botting sites took months to recover from the nuke.
- It isn't viable as a long term solution as opposed to detection because detection ensures that anyone botting
is caught near instantly
- Once botting is stopped and the Botany Bay/Botwatch system is in full effect, there will be no "botting until
first warning" because it'll catch you minutes after setting up the bot, there won't be any point.
What's the difference between a Goldfarmer and a Player bot?
- Goldfarmers are gold farmers (simply put), no racism intended but they usually are from china or mass botting
farms, these guys bot to get gold, then RWT it to players who purchase it from them, they make money and the
process continues.
- Goldfarmers can usually be spotted wearing the "typical" bot gear; d med, legs, granite body etc because it's
cheap and has very few requirements to wear (EG rune platebody needs dragon slayer) as well as their names;
"hueriher9" for example.
- Player bots bot for their own needs, levels, xp, gold if they need it which is why you'll see a few player bots
alongside goldfarmers at areas like frost dragons, either players or hijacked accounts used by goldfarmers.
Why aren't Goldfarmers being banned? They're so obvious!?
- This is something that's very frustrating for a lot of players as they over-run areas like Grotworms making it
almost impossible for legit players.
- Jagex do know about them and are taking action, just most people don't know about it because it isn't visual
to anyone but them;
- Jagex are removing gold from their accounts, over double what they estimate is traded by them every day,
and will keep doing so every day.
- As Jagex are taking more than double what they make and sell, they only have limited time left before they
figure it's not worth it and stop bothering, after which point all of the accounts used will be likely banned.
What's happening to bot sites/Why aren't they being taken down?
- Jagex are working on it, as they have taken down lots of popular private servers recently but it's not as easy
as "just taking them down" lots of legal action is required, it's expensive and takes a long time. Be patient, it is
happening!
What's happening to player bots?
- Player bots are receiving Temp and Perm bans mainly based around how much they bot, but it does seem
pretty random at times too, simply put; they are permanently banning more people who bot than temp bans, so
unless you want to lose your account forever, don't touch a bot.
- Jagex also don't care how many spins or runecoins you've bought, there are people who have bought
thousands of spins and have been permanently banned, if you break the rules, you will be banned.
How can I do my part?
- Always report under "Macroing"
- If they are a player botting, go to their adventure log and check what clan they're in, if their adventure log is
hidden, use a link i've provided in the description, fill in their name and it'll show you the clan they're in.
- Find one of the admins or clan leaders and tell them you know they're botting, most clan communities don't
want cheaters there as it makes them look bad.
- With any luck, they'll get kicked from their clan, and banned at a later date too!
