Today on April 27th, 2006, Nintendo shocked the videogame world yet again. Their formerly new generation console known as "Nintendo Revolution" has now been given an official name, Nintendo Wii. It's pronounced "We".

Yes it's very different, even weird, but give it time and it'll begin to make more sense. Names like Google, Yahoo, and iPod to name a few were quite odd when they first came out right? But now look at them, they're used in everyday language all around the world and have become cultural phenomenoms.

Nintendo is changing the way we play games with its remote controller. Previously known as the "Rev-Mote", I guess we can now call it the "Wii-mote". If you look at the controller and look at the two i's in the word Wii, you'll see a similarity. What's also there is the fact that the lower case i's look like people. This symbolizes people playing together. We the people; this system is for all of us, "wii" can all play together, and through Nintendo's WiFi Connection on the Nintendo Wii, anyone, anywhere in the world will be able to play with one another.

Just give it some time to sink it, and you'll love it. There's something so unique and fresh about the word that soon hopefully everyone will agree. Thank you Nintendo for making this Revoltuion, one Wii will all love. The video shown should explain what I'm talking about.

Here's what Nintendo had to say officially about the Wii:
"Introducing ... Wii. As in "we." While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games ... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?"

"Wii sounds like 'we,' which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."

"Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd."

"So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because, it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything."
