Bravely Default 2 - FINALE: From Bravebearer to Completion
And that's that. We now know that Seth being a blank slate had some kind of purpose after all.
Sadly it doesn't improve the score it'll get.
Speaking of...
Story: 6.5/10
I kinda need to split this into two sections: the main story, and the world building. The main story gets a 5.5/10. Most of it was straight forward, very generic stuff. I guess it harkens back to the days of early FF, and by that I mean the originals of FF1-3, where the story was fairly minimal. When compared to Bravely Default or even Bravely Second it falls very short. The way we dealt with the final boss was interesting, but there weren't any twists that made me care. The thing that puts it over a 5 is the double fake out endings. That, I kinda liked. Now the world building gets a 8/10. The party chat was a very welcome addition to the games. Many villains and allies were good characters. Some town NPCs had nice dialogue. And so on. There may be more lore that might improve the score, but at most it would bump it to a 6.8 overall.
Gameplay: 7/10
I feel the gameplay works as a turn based RPG, but there is a certain point where the game gets very imbalanced, which I guess is in Bravely Default's favor, but there is only 1 superboss in the game that can even hope to challenge your final party. The other BD games had plenty of different superbosses. BS even had multiple difficulties of those bosses. There is just quite a bit lacking in challenging the party without deliberately weakening yourself.
Visuals: 8/10
I keeps the usual BD style. The painted style for the town backdrops are beautiful as it was in the other games. The character's models are ok, and all of the job outfits look pretty darn good. The game could use some more anti aliasing. Many enemies are obvious color swaps, the base models look pretty unique for the most part. I don't really know how they could improve it other than smoothing things out a little.
Music: 8/10
This game I think has the most consistently good music throughout the game in the franchise, although it has no tracks that I'd say are truly spectacular like "That Person's Name is" or "Serpent Eating the Horizon"
Overall: 7.5/10
The game is good. It falls flat in some places, but is still an enjoyable romp. I think if they handled the main story better and kept the superbosses coming, it would elevate the game greatly, but maybe that's for BD3.
Time to finally complete Crosscode after all these years.
