Bravely Default
Bravely Default, also known in Japan as Bravely Default Flying Fairy, is a role-playing video game developed by Silicon Studio in conjunction with Square Enix for the Nintendo 3DS. It was originally released in 2012.
An extended version was later released in 2013, improving various aspects, both technically and in terms of the story. More recently, we were surprised by its triumphant return in the form of an HD Remake, which will be released on June 5, 2025, along with Nintendo's new console, the Nintendo Switch 2.
The story of Bravely Default introduces us to the World of Luxendarc, which is maintained in peace and harmony thanks to the four Elemental Crystals. It is the task of the Orthodox Church to keep these four sacred relics under safekeeping and surveillance. But unfortunately, tragedy has descended upon this peaceful world, and one by one, the crystals have fallen into corruption, bringing chaos, sickness, and death to these once beautiful lands. It will be up to Agnes, the Vestal of the Wind, to embark on a journey across the world to purify the crystals and thus restore peace and harmony to the planet.
The story of Bravely Default is beautiful, taking us back to the golden years of Square Enix, when there was passion in their works. It was co-written by Keiichi Ajiro and Naotaka Hayashi, whom the most knowledgeable will know for his work on Steins Gate.
In terms of gameplay, Bravely Default is a classic role-playing video game with a very interesting turn-based combat system. During the exploration of dungeons and cities, the game is presented in a semi-top-down third-person view. The game also gives us the option to zoom in or out freely.
Bravely Default also implements a system of conversations that will be activated at certain points in the story, during which the characters will exchange their points of view on topics from the most mundane that will make us laugh more than once, to their concerns about what is happening in the story at that moment, an option that gives us a second level of depth since it allows us to know even more about the character of the characters as well as delve into their relationship.
