Brawlout Nintendo Switch Gameplay
In gameplay, concept, and even some character designs, Brawlout is a Smash clone. This isn't an inherently terrible idea. Some fantastic games have started out trying to imitate the success of others. The issue is Brawlout ends up taking the worst elements of Smash and does little else to innovate. The result is a hollow shell of a fighting game that is only occasionally engaging. The actual gameplay is fairly similar between the two (Brawlout trying to be a semi-clone of Melee in particular), but again Smash is more consistently good with controls, move sets, and character differences (also there's just a ton more of them) I don’t think there’s any game out there, clone or not, that comes close to duplicating the entire Smash experience, Brawlout seems supremely content with the middle ground, to be fun but unremarkable. There’s no Mario, Scorpion, or Comic Book frontman on the cover; instead, the obscure roster fails to carry the brawler beyond the appeal of any fighting game with an ongoing legacy. The diamond in the rough comes in the form of free character updates bringing beloved Indie IPs into the mix. Such as Yooka Laylee, Juan Aguacate from Guacamelee!, The Drifter from Hyper Light Drifter & the recent Dead Cells protagonist, The Beheaded.
