Penn State football wrapped up another important commitment on Saturday night when four-star edge rusher Mylachi Williams committed to the Nittany Lions. The Philadelphia native is the first edge rusher in the Class of 2024 and Deion Barnes’ first commit in his new role as defensive line coach. In today’s video recap, Blue White Illustrated recruiting insider Sean Fitz and film analyst Thomas Frank Carr discuss Williams’ recruiting journey to the Nittany Lions.

Penn State gets Williams under the radar
Once again, Penn State has found another underrecruited prospect to swell the ranks of the 2024 recruiting class. Despite choosing Penn State over Syracuse and Pitt, Williams is a highly-regarded edge defender by most recruiting services in this cycle. The 6-3 pass rusher is the 205th overall player in the On300 rankings and 305 overall despite not having a recruiting ranking by ESPN, one of the four major services. Despite that, he was a priority for the Nittany Lions and Barnes.
“He was Penn State’s top if not top, one of the top-two targets at defensive end,” explains Fitz.
However, Williams didn’t play too much in the recruiting world unlike some of Penn State’s other targets. Fitz says his support system isn’t as savvy as other recruits.
“It was a weird recruitment in that he didn’t know much about the process, and his coaches at Bonner didn’t know either. So there wasn’t a ton of drama per se, but a guy you felt like would be on board.”

Another underrated prospect?
Both Fitz and T-Frank agree that if you’re looking for potential, Williams has it. While listed at 6-3, his reach is elite. He also has the frame to grow into a complete defensive end.
“If you’re looking at the overall physical package from size, athleticism, mobility, there is a lot of moldable clay here. He has very few deficiencies in his profile. He’s smart and seems to play the position very well. So overall, I like the overall package that he brings to the table even if he’s a bit undersized right now,” T-Frank said.
Williams is the 22nd commit in this class for Penn State.
