You may have noticed that the AMC stock was removed from the Threshold Securities list after being on there for 13 consecutive days of FTDs exceeding the threshold.
This means that the shorts 'covered' in some way. I think this was good for AMC, it caused a price movement of $11 or 28%, if that price movement was saw on Tuesday BEFORE the hedgies beat down the price, AMC would currently be at $66-70 and would've have FOMO squeezed to $100, triggering the short squeeze.
However, the hedgies KNEW that this COULD NOT HAPPEN, so did everything they could to beat the stock down.
Other views are that these shares could've been transferred to another market maker and not covered at all, however, this wouldn't explain the $11 price movement.
