Breaking the MLS Transfer Systems - 2023 Transfers - Charlotte FC #11 - MLS Football Manager 2022
0David Tepper is clowning on what's supposed to be Charlotte FC's revenge tour. Sometimes your biggest opponent lives inside the house. While this episode highlights all the moves I had to make to improve the team, it also goes to show just how poorly MLS rules and transfers are implemented in Football Manager -- and always have been. Although I don't go through everything live and in video, I highlight problems with draft allocations, trade logic, talent disparities, and how the AI handles designated players. Fortunately I have the wherewithal to bend the game to my will. But the game shouldn't be what is making it this difficult. Also, the owner can enjoy his shit bagel.
On a channel that focuses on so many strategy and 2D combat games, why would I be playing a game like Football Manager 2022? Honestly, it checks a lot of boxes: it's a game that gives you the freedom to build your own team, attributes and balancing strategies matter a ton, there's a lot of interesting metagamaing outside of just playing soccer (yes, I said it), and the matches happen on their own so that I am at the mercy of my choices and roster building mistakes. Yes, Football Manager can be described as a spreadsheet simulator in the same vein as something like Eve Online, but it's a series I've enjoyed for awhile and there's no better time to showcase it on the channel than the founding days of a local professional sports teams. You know I'm all about building things up from square 1. My intent here is to take it all the way to the top.
Note that the first few episodes were recorded BEFORE the first Major Update to FM22 released on the same day as this video (Dec 7, 2021). Things may be a bit different if you try to do this run yourself.
