We're excited to bring you a VHS to digital transfer of a 1993 Japanese Breath of Fire promotional video!
Breath of Fire: Ryuu no Senshi (The Dragon Warrior) PROMOTION VTR / ーブレス オブ ファイアー プロモーションVTRー was a promotional VHS cassette most likely issued by Capcom to retail for advertising the upcoming Capcom debut RPG prior to its release on April 3, 1993.
This tape features a Japanese narration explaining the premise, plot, characters, and gameplay of Breath of Fire.
Interestingly, some of the footage features elements that were changed in the final game, such as a particular cutscene involving Bo/Gilliam during the prologue.
Additionally, four tracks from Breath of Fire's score are used here, however it's the original versions of the music prior to being downsampled for the Super Famicom/Super NES!
A note about the music from Breath of Fire lead composer Yasuaki Fujita (BUNBUN):
"The reason the sound quality of this video is good is because it is the original MIDI version of the music before it was made with the Super Nintendo sound chip. The sound source is not sampled for Super Nintendo, but linear PCM, so the original can be expressed as it is. Unfortunately, I don't have the original version of the audio data. Perhaps the data is stored in Capcom Co., Ltd."
Although the VHS runs for 27 minutes and 43 seconds, the video actually loops once after the 13 minute, 55 second mark.
