BRUTAL HALF-LIFE v3 is a modification for Half-Life 1 (please do not try to load with DOOM), that currently is in a full development mode and it is an update after several years. First things first, if you are used to DOOM and DUKE NUKEM, the Half-Life movement and combat are completely different, have it in mind while playing. The current v3 version of Brutal Half-Life has several 'universes' you can choose to play - there is a DOOM 1 & 2 levels, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake and Return to the Castle Wolfenstein. The levels are practically remade 1 to 1 of course with some specific Half-Life 1 changes, some had undergone a quite nice treatment, for example you have E1L3 from Duke Nukem 3D mashup in one place. What is a very nice thing in this Half-Life modification, you will also encounter the weapons specific for these universes - for example in DOOM universe you will find a Plasma Rifle, Rocket Launcher from Quake I and a BFG. Another interesting thing, you will encounter also the weapons that were used in Half-Life expansions and modifications - it includes Opposing Force Machine Gun, Blue Shift's Desert Eagle or M4. What makes this modification even more interesting due to mashups mentioned earlier, sometimes you will wonder did someone merged Quake and Half-Life universes into one piece, meddling with others. In some maps you will also encounter that the Xen lifeforms are present in the DOOM universe itself, instead of Phobos you might see that it is more a Xen's planet due to organic growth outside. Like in Half-Life you will meet both hostile extraterrestrial lifeforms and humans, however both of these parties are also hostile to each other and will fight on sight, however do not think you are completely safe. Remember that this is Half-Life and it is possible for the enemies to shoot your grenade while in hand, I was surprised once that I was blasted to bits immediately while cooking a grenade.
