TRANSCRIPT (SEE COMMENTS FOR FULL):
00:00 How do you feel about the way you guys finished the game on both ends?
00:04 BUDDY HIELD: I mean, it's a tough team, man. They can just hurt you in many different ways, with Derrick White shooting the ball. What he shot? 7-for-16. Seems like he made 10. And that's how, like. when you're home and they live by three-balls. So everybody's just going crazy. And we just stick together, play unselfish, trust Steph Curry. And Draymond being the defensive anchor, Gary coming in, subbing in and out, making stops, making stops. Wiggs coming up big. Kyle coming up big. Moses finished in the second quarter for us and, like, coming strong. This is a collective big group. Lindy coming off the bench, playing good minutes. And just Looney being Looney, just everybody together, Steve putting us in the right spots for us to be effective.
01:03 Buddy, you just talked about Looney being Looney. What have you maybe learned about Kevon since coming here?
01:07 I mean, he was obviously so reliable for you guys in the fourth quarter there. He's just so unselfish. It's hard to find people, especially, like, bigs wanna score. They wanna, like, put the ball in the basket. He doesn't fight, argue. Guards take his rebounds. He's just the ultimate teammate, man. And I just love being a part of it, love playing with him. He sets screens. He rolls. He's just that guy you need and he's always on time.
01:31 You've been around a long time. Does this feel like a regular season statement game?
01:36 What do you think? I mean, it's a statement — if we don't win this game, everybody's, like, "Oh, they didn't play nobody." So you gotta come make a statement, right? And on the road. So, that's how the basketball world talks. If you — they say we haven't played nobody yet, so we're battle tested and we gotta see if it's real.
01:58 There's been a lot of talk within the team about making defense your identity. Does a game like this validate that concept?
02:04 Yeah, I still gave up some buckets, though. I still give up some cheap shit I gotta be better at, and that's on me. I gotta keep sticking to the game plan. But Stack is on me.
02:18 Everybody's on me. Draymond's on me. And I'm just learning from them and getting better and learning championship habits. That's what they always preach, championship habits. So I'm just staying locked in and getting stops when I need to get stops and I think we got stops and make buckets at the right time.
02:34 What's one of those championship habits that you're really keying on, that you wanna achieve?
02:40 I just pay attention to details. Every play matters, especially when it comes to closing time, just knowing your assignment. I think I — third quarter, Jayson Tatum go right when I want him to go left, so just sticking to the championship habits and being detail-oriented and don't have no brain farts and those plays that were so important to us.
02:59 Steph had a tough turnover in the second quarter, passed ahead. I think it was a five-point swing when you were doing pretty good.
03:04 Yeah, I saw that.
03:06 How important is it go for a superstar to do that, to take that, as far as from a coach and everything? How does that trickle down to the rest of the team?
03:13 Steph just, he — ultimate superstar, man. He’s coachable…
