Bug Fables - Hard Hits Team Slacker (Team Rank 10*/15*/23*)
Normally I start the video loading the save file but due to how hard the first strategy was I just wanted a successful recording. Thank God I finally got one. These aren't necessarily harder than Team Maki, and likewise aren't directly affected by the Hard Mode medal. but I chose a harder run to do against the single hardest boss to try that. On that note, let's talk about that first run of mine.
0:00 Block Heal Royal Guard vs. Moon Knight (Team Rank 10)
In theory, doable at Rank 1 as Block Heal costs 4 MP. I know it was academic curiosity that drove me here but please don't try that. More don't need to suffer this. First restriction: Block Heal and/or Super Block+ are my only defensive medals. Kabbu has Iron Seeds to reduce chip damage but due to MP restrictions I only ended up using Block Heal. As Team Maki showed that will prevent KO as it can heal from 0 HP to 1 HP. The second restriction: Rank 10. I had to forego 2 Max TP, 3 Max HP, and only used 9 Max MP potions. Super Peppers and Iron Seeds were fine but I couldn't just obliterate the boss or easily tank it out. For some reason I still insist on not using revive items and decided against using Ice Rain. Were this any other boss that Kabbu has to Super Block or die this might not have been an issue but then we should talk about Team Slacker now shouldn't we?
Here's the thing, Stratos hits hard but mostly single targets with his one area of effect attack being telegraphed by charging. It's Delilah that's the problem. She's the glass cannon between them. Oh sure, she can drain HP with her blood suck. Oh sure she can throw poison/sleep darts 2-4 times but those are pretty easy to Super Block. She also can use the Longlegs Summoner Item but while tricky to time it's not that bad. Beyond that the abilities between these two include being able to use Queen's Dinners to heal and Miracle Seeds to revive each other. None of that is THE problem though, and are manageable.
Oh no, the real trick is that bazooka. First problem is that the base damage is 4 or so. That'd be fine but the amount of times it hits varies from 3 to 12. That'd be bad on its own but it also fires random attack items. One pierces some if not all defense AND hits the hardest while the rest do varied amounts of damage AND various status effects. If that weren't all bad on its own I think each one also has its own Super Block timing between being fired and hitting you. You cannot practice a consistent timing to block hits and have to react to it. That one attack made this whole battle fail over half of the 150+ recordings I have.
Consequently, the thing that finally made this realistically doable was shifting from spreading damage to show off both bosses to just rushing Delilah so she has less time to cause a run end. Loads of optimization happened over the 150+ runs so I'm fine with how many takes this took, but even with rushing Delilah down that doesn't guarantee she won't pull her bazooka out. In fact, she did, and thank God Almighty she only hit 3 times for the slower, easier timing(s) to Super Block. Could've had so many more failed attempts if she kept overwhelming me. Stratos also decided to play nice and not use Miracle Seeds to revive Delilah. Not sure if his AI is supposed to do that or just God blessed RNG but I'll take it either way. I don't regret doing this so it's proven to be doable but I won't be trying this again.
4:30 Danger Leif FTK (Team Rank 15)
This is legitimately the hardest first turn kill strat that's possible. First of all, due to Stratos having 3 defense I had to pass the knowledge check that Mega Rush somehow works with Weak Stomach. Don't know why +1 Charge works with that but thank God it does. This also has the hardest action command timing I've done other than the previous Block Heal run. While Ice Rain does have AoE the spot to drop it is very narrow. Shout out to my friend Le for helping me find the visual cue with the leaf. As such this has both the most difficult knowledge check and the hardest action command timing to pull off of the FTKs. This boss isn't that hard on its own as you'll see afterward but this is the hardest FTK I've done that's doable to begin with.
5:42 Status Mirror Trolling (Team Rank 23)
I was trying to make a rank 27 meme but then I ended up optimizing down four more ranks. This is what I mean by they're not necessarily harder. They're still just as possible to bully with a dumb meme as Team Maki but that doesn't mean they're a pushover. Vi gets KO'd once and while I'm still not using revive items this does mean having to use Kabbu's Pep Talk unlike the Block Heal run. Otherwise though? With enough defense to render the bazooka chip damage and enough HP to survive tons of shots in-a-row from that thing Status Mirror takes that Delilah is shooting tons of random status effects at you and uses that against her. With Delilah taking care of herself for you this boss gets way less stressful. Fun meme. Can recommend.
