C-64 Audio Rip: The Hobbit - Desolation of Smaug
"The Hobbit" is one of those "old-school" text adventures published by Melbourne House based on JRR Tolkien's classic novel of the same name. I would peg its difficulty level at a nine out of ten given the timed events and the number of times you'd get killed in certain places. I couldn't knock the music, however, and Brennan's compositions add wonderful atmosphere to this game and helped take a bit of the frustration out of the game. I also liked the graphic screens, especially the way the fill was drawn in for them.
And yes, I had a walkthrough sitting underneath VICE while I was questing. This part was a bit of a downer. All you need to do is "DROP BARD" whenever you encounter Smaug, and tell him to "SHOOT THE DRAGON." I was also somewhat amused with the fact Thorin didn't try to kill me when I picked up the valuable treasure.
