C Company 1 YORKS home at last 25.04.12
Over 60 troops from C Company 1 YORKS returned home after a successful tour in one of the toughest regions in Helmand.
It was a joyful occasion but poignant as they remembered their comrade who didn't make it back.
In Helmand, C Company were deployed as D Delhi Company and worked alongside a Danish Battalion. They were responsible for pushing the security bubble further out in the Upper Gereksh Valley, setting up checkpoints and recruiting Afghan Local Police. By the time they left, an extra 34 locals had signed up to join the police force.
The homecoming was tinged with sadness as thoughts went to their comrade who did not make it home. Lance Corporal Gajbahadur Gurung was killed in action in January by an exchange of fire whilst on patrol. It was his third tour to Afghanistan.
The soldiers will now have some time off with their families before their medal parade next month.
