His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has presented operational medals to around 240 soldiers from 3 Close Support Battalion REME at their home base in Paderborn.

The Battalion have just returned from a six-month tour of Afghanistan where they delivered their mantra to "Repair Anything, Anywhere."

He may be over 90 but the Duke of Edinburgh takes his military duties seriously.

For the soldiers and families having royalty to recognise their achievements is a special honour.

During Op Herrick 15 3 REME worked from Camp Bastion but also deployed forward across Helmand province, helping to carry out maintenance and repairs on different equipment and over 170 variants of military vehicles.

Supported by the Band of the Prince of Wales's Division the soldiers gave the royal salute before marching off the parade square to start some well-earned leave.
