C64 Game: Cookie-Eaters
That's not a bug at the end but just me being silly switching it to lower-case mode with the Shift+C64 keys.
"Searching for gold in an underground labyrinth: Two players compete against each other and against the ghosts of the ancient Incas. Who will prevail and conquer the most treasures?
The game “Cookie Eaters” is a fascinating variant of “Pac Man”. It is played by two players at the same time. A special treat is the built-in editor, with which you can create new labyrinth systems.
In search of the legendary riches of the ancient Incas, two explorer friends managed to penetrate a cave system beneath a dilapidated Inca pyramid. Everywhere in the cave passages the legendary treasures of the Inca princes are waiting for their discoverers. As is so often the case when people come across a vein of gold, old friendships and shared dangers are suddenly forgotten. Everyone tries to get as much of the gold as possible. The competitors are driven by greed for untold wealth.
The ancient Incas were not only excellent builders and goldsmiths, but they also knew how to use magical powers. They had their treasures guarded by spirits. They pronounced a curse that anyone who tried to steal the treasures would be doomed to death.
The players' task is to collect the available gold pieces (points) and catch as many ghosts as possible. Another task in the game is to prevent the opponent from doing the same. This can be achieved by swallowing a strength pill (touching the white rings) and approaching your opponent with strength. The intake of a power pill can be recognized by the color change of a “CookieEater”. You can deal with ghosts in the same way. With a little tactical skill you can drive your opponent into the arms of the ghosts.
Understandably, this only works if you have just swallowed a power pill. However, you should be careful with these, as there are only four of these power pills available in a labyrinth.
If the two opponents meet, if they are equally strong, i.e. both with a power pill or without, a duel to the death ensues: the walls of the labyrinth disappear and the two opponents reappear in their starting positions. Whoever shoots the opponent first wins. A shot is fired by pressing the fire button.
The maze is then rebuilt and play continues as normal. If a character is defeated, there are two ways to resume the hunt for the gold:
1. By pressing the fire button
2. You wait until your opponent has at least emptied the current labyrinth of gold pieces.
The prerequisite is that the player still has at least one spare life available. In the new labyrinth you can find gold again.
For every 1000 gold pieces you collect, you will be rewarded with an extra life. Once you have completed all the labyrinths, the ghosts increase their speed.
In the title screen you can use the function keys F1 to F4 to set the first and last labyrinth to be played. The display for this is shown at the bottom of the screen.
If you have selected the editor from the cover image with E, first enter the number of the labyrinth you want to edit. The labyrinths are numbered from 0 to 9. After pressing the corresponding number key, the desired labyrinth appears on the screen. The available components are displayed at the bottom of the screen. A labyrinth can be created from these components.
We are convinced that you will enjoy “Cookie Eaters” as much as we do. Since you always have to keep an eye on two opponents in the game, the ghosts and your fellow player, new game situations are constantly developing. The editor provides further variety."
