MANUAL: Listen to what I've managed to find out about blood sucking demons, better known as vampires.
In my early youth, I found, because of my curiosity, a book that spoke of demons - vampires. Those words were introduced with real momentum in my restless brain.
This was the reason that prompted me to become a known vampire-hunter.
Oh, I saw such horrible sights! Colleagues laughed at me, but of course, in a short period of time this changed, and my research went like a ray of light through the dark paths of these monsters.
You will not believe the huge amount of semi-human monsters I found! They look horrible, with huge heads, delighting in scaring the innocent, shouting obscenities and teasing them.
Sometimes the worst victims are the most attractive, young blond boys with curly hair, attacking unsuspecting people with evil intentions. Of course, you will find many other fanatics called "ordinary" vampires (Vampirus Trivius) hanging-out in dark caves as you know, but the most terrible of all these horrific beings is a female demon, wearing a shawl that covers practically nothing, prancing in rooms and caverns, showing all their huge... ahem, attractive, even I had great difficulties (very embarrassing)... anyway, this will warn you of the varieties of temptations and dangers you will come across. Garlic cloves can stop the Undesirables, if you can hit them... Amen! But an ordinary garlic will not stop the most horrible of all horrors.
Yes, you guessed, I 'm referring to the dreadful Count Dracula, who is horrible beyond description.
And I can tell you that I soon I will face him, and I can do this only because I've found a way to destroy him.
Only the daylight can kill it! By using mirrors and a crystal ball you can direct a beam of light to the deepest caverns of the underground domain. And with the help of the powers of light you can banish this terrible nightmare from the face of the earth.
Van Helsing's controls:
Up/Down/Left/Right... the usual.
Joystick right/left and pressing fire: Van Helsing throws garlic in that direction.
Joystick down: Van Helsing kicks!
Joystick down and fire: Van Helsing selects a "magic item". In the bottom of the screen they appear in this order: crystal ball, garlic, and four mirrors at different angles.
Joystick up and pressing fire: Van Helsing puts into action the selected magic item.
MY THOUGHTS
Well, all that is a load of cack because the only useful item is the crystal ball, used to manouevre the ray of light, which resembles a string of beads (rosaries?).
Hanging the garlic from the ceilings is a waste of time, as is using the mirrors on the light as they have no effect.
I got through this four-level slugfest after painstakingly plotting my route on maps that I created. There is a certain route you have to take otherwise you get trapped or your lightray goes wandering off, never to be seen again! Figuring it out is the most satisfying thing to do, on the upside.
The "horrible beyond description" Dracula DOESN'T EVEN APPEAR, except in the title screen. There is simply an "exit" at the end of each level, including the last. Not even a picture of coffin!
All in all, very disappointing. An original idea that didn't work out very well. Vampire's Expire.
