LYRICS
LAUGHING SONG (CONT.)
"For it sleeps on my sand in its socks."
"Well, it smells like a sole
Though it seems a bit stale."
Said the sea as it swallowed some rocks.
"And it snores as it sleeps",
Said the sprawling sand,
"Like a shark which has been on the spree."
Said the sea with a sniff,
"It seems more like a snail,
Or a squid which has slipped from my sea."
"It's too big for a squid."
Snapped the surly sand,
"And it's scales are as soft as ice-cream."
"If I tickled it's sides",
Said the sea with a smile,
"Do you think it would start with a scream?"
So the sea stroked the sides
Of that strange, soft thing.
And it stirred from it's sleep with a sigh.
It stood up on the sand
Rubbed it's eyes and said:
"Man, man, mannikin, a man am I!"
HEALING SONG (from part 2)
I touch your fingers
With my fingers
And life flows.
I have held your hands
In my hands,
And the twilight space is spanned.
I touch your cold feet
With my fingers.
The pulse beats slow.
With my breath, I've breathed
On your limbs,
And the dancing flame is freed.
I touch your dead flesh
With my fingers.
Wash you clean.
With this robe, I clothe
Your new frame,
And you lay aside your pain.
I touch your deaf ears
With my fingers.
The darkness clears.
I have filled your eyes
With my fire,
And your weary spirit flies.
I touch your still lips
With my fingers,
Touch and heal:
I have poured my brightness
sure and slow;
And the light begins to grow.
I touch this still space
with my fingers,
Fill this void.
From the darkness breaks
A living spark
And the sleeping shadow wakes.
CAIN WITH THE DEAD PRINCE
Young Prince, I envy you the peace
In which you lie
For all around rage seethes
Like a disease which blinds the town.
Why can't he see that his great hate
Will bring him down?
His pride has sealed his fate.
No words can make him turn aside.
In death, perhaps you see these things,
You see the greed,
The pride that power brings,
You know the highest wave must break.
I, too, have crossed death's barren land,
I learnt to see,
Was taught to understand,
To love life with humility.
For there, on that cold desert floor,
A seed of death,
A seed the desert bore,
Was borne, and brought me back to life.
And now, the cycle starts once more.
What can I do?
I've seen it all before.
I had to die to be reborn.
And so, this Tower must fall, must die
As I have died.
And I can only try
To warm the ashes with my breath.
That is the road that I must take.
The circle forms,
So clear, there's no mistake, -
I sow the seed for what will come.
My death, I sow with yours, my child,
I bury now,
That part of me that died.
I only pray
That God will hear my cry
And that this seed I plant may grow.
THE LANGUAGE OF THE MIND
We have been in every land.
Every tongue we understand.
If you want to learn
Open your eyes!
Open your ears!
Open your minds!
First we ask the question 'who'?
Poios? Kim?
Kush? Ko? Min?
And who are you?
Then we ask the question 'where'?
Fein? Pou?
Gdeh? and Ku?
And where is there?
This is Tower
O Pyrogos
Et-borg. Hisar.
But we are free.
Elleftheros.
Taza Taze.
And so you're free of the Tower.
You call your friend.
Dost. Philos.
And elehahib.
Then there's love.
Sevmek. Hobb.
And Agapo.
And so you come to love your friend.
And we say dance
Khorayvo,
Dans etmek. Rakass.
And we say sing
Kendus
Rainnah. Kanei.
So if you want to learn from us
Open your mouths and sing with us.
