Call of Duty playthrough Part 1
I've mentioned this game a few times, as being one I really liked. Twenty years ago I played this, when it came out. And I hadn't touched it since. I figured it was high time I try it out again, to see if it lived up to my rosy memories.
So far, the American campaign did not. It's unfortunate, really. This game forgoes the "game" aspect too often in the name of spectacle. It's more an excuse to get player from one set piece to another. Unfortunately, the gameplay is in the parts in between, and those are the parts that didn't seem to have as much care to them. Realism doesn't make for good gaming. Enemies are hard to see, and like to hide. Well, real soldiers would. That's fine. But in a video game it makes for a frustrating experience. And, being a video game, the developers have to "cheat" a lot. LOTS of health pickups becuase you're getting shot at a lot, but even then, the enemies simply can't aim. Now, there's at least PART of an excuse here, you have AI teammates that can distract them, but that comes with its own set of problems when those teammates effectively play the game for you! There's literally sections of this game where your best course of action is to not play the game. That should never happen. -- Watch live at / the_nametag
