On the islands of Makin, Peleliu, and Okinawa in the Pacific Theater, the American campaign is taking place. The Eastern Front, primarily in Nazi Germany, is where the Soviet campaign is set. Players control Pvt. C. Miller in the American campaign as he battles with Sgt. Tom Sullivan, Cpl. Roebuck (later Sergeant), and Pvt. Polonsky. Players take on the role of Pvt. Dimitri Petrenko in the Soviet campaign, fighting alongside the ruthless Sgt. Viktor Reznov and the forgiving Pvt. Chernov. For the first time in a Call of Duty game, players battle the Japanese Imperial Army in the American campaign.
