After getting a PDA message of the Military fighting Freedom at the Old Warehouse, I take the back way to find a three-man Freedom squad at the sleep trailer camp outside the Old Warehouse. I get a job from one of them to trade an AK for a Steel Helmet. I already have one, but I like to trade any weapons for armors and helmets, that I can. They are less common to get in looting the dead, and weapons are plentiful. Just south of the Old Warehouse, I arrive to find a long line of dead Military, along with a lot of dead rats. Not sure if the mutants killed them all but I think Freedom did the work.

There were some unidentified allies inside the Old Warehouse, and my PDA said they were Mercenaries. I thought they were just going to stand around and chill but they were on the move, so I followed only to discover they were down in the basement. I came up right behind them, hoping one of them might have a used AK for sale, when suddenly they vanished. I had never seen that before at the Old Warehouse, any NPCs going in the basement to travel to another level. Where was that? It makes no sense for Mercs to go in X-18, so is this one of those thongs where it's the same as leaving the level to Truck Cemetery, Darkscape or Garbage? It's a mystery.

One thing I know for certain, is that if you are a rookie with very little money, getting a Steel Helmet is a big deal, since you can upgrade to 1st generation night vision. It's the cheapest way to get any type of night vision. Without it, you should never leave your base, camp, village or bunker after dark. I had been wanting to leave the Dark valley but I was expecting an Emission at any moment. Looking at the time, the weather and the daylight left, that may be past the point of no return. Nothing wrong with another night, in the comfort of your own home. The boys love to relax in the Dark Valley.
