This level is impressively designed with higher and lower routes and optional large coins, taking advantage of the 3D World-exclusive dash pads to utilize a sub-area without requiring players to break immersion even in order to enter a pipe. Of course, there might be situations in which one is tempted to resort to an input other than jump, but it's much more satisfying to play this level the intended way.
