Can We Have Moms in GAMING?
When we think of video games and gamers we all have a pretty common picture of players in our heads, and for the most part, it's probably accurate. A male player between 12-40 who likes first-person shooters and action games. But as guys are getting more games for their interests there is a severe lack of games for women. This is exasperated by the fact that the genres within gaming are narrow and really haven't seen much expansion by major studios. This has left a void for female gamers and under-representation of games that focus on their market.
Basically what I'm getting at is that there isn't a game that focuses on motherhood the way that God of War focused on fatherhood. This makes it difficult to suggest games to my wife and some of her friends. Not because it is the game they should play but because there is potential for motherhood to be explored, to have a narrative that explores different aspects of adulthood.
Maybe it would be nice to get games that I can recommend to people to get more people interested in gaming than saying I've got final fantasy remakes and first person shooters.
