Is it possible to beat Metroid Prime 2: Echoes without using ammunition?
The short answer is YES, if you want to know how this TAS works in detail, read the rest of this description

there are 4 different types of ammo:

the 1st type are the Missiles, which are also needed to shoot Beam combos like Super Missles and to use the Seeker Launcher Upgrade
There is a video on my channel where i don't use Missiles and finish with every item possible under this condition, so we already know that it is possible to beam the game without Missiles:

the 2nd type is Power Bomb Ammo
Using Out of Bounds you can skip USING PBs, but it's required to pick up the main power up to spawn the key in Dark Oasis.

and the 3rd and 4th types are Beam Ammo:
Dark Ammo which is needed to use Dark Beam and Light Ammo which is needed to use Light Beam. You need both to use Annihilator Beam.

Skipping Annihilator Beam is done in any% speedruns
Skipping Light Beam is not difficult and known since Item loss Skip was discovered in 2010
Skipping Dark Beam is a lot more difficult but is known to be possible. Check out this Video to see my max% no Dark Beam TAS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC4ubCYDwKw

while some portals are scan-portals, to access most Dark World areas, you need either Dark- or Annihilator beam, and to return to Light World, you need either Light- or Annihilator beam

how do you solve this?
there is a mechanic in Echoes which allows the player to charge a beam shot when you're out of ammo to prevent softlocks.
so if you're at 0 ammo the whole time you could use a beam without needing ammo
Unlike with the other beams, collecting Annihilator Beam doesn't give you 50 Ammo

So, if you'd be able to collect Annihilator Beam without both Dark- and Light Beam, you could use the zero ammo shot to activate portals.

Dolphin Emulator, save states, slowdown and a memory viewer were used to create this Video.
