So... TECHNICALLY doing this challenge without leveling up isn't possible. You're going to gain star points after every fight you do and there's sadly no way to properly disable that. The next best thing that could be done is just leveling up my badge points and not equipping badges so that Mario's no stronger from the star points he gains. It's probably the bare minimum that I can do, but I don't know unfortunately how much else I can do. Maybe make it so I don't benefit from the level up restoring my stats, but... nah.
