Micheal Ferland recently told The Athletic that he doesn't think that he'll play professionally ever again.

There are 2 years remaining on his contract that pays him $3.5M a season. The Canucks will continue to get cap relief from Ferland's contract as long as he stays on LTIR (Long-Term Injury Reserve).
