Resident Evil, which established the survival horror genre, had lost its bite after RE4. Street Fighter was on the ropes after the poorly-received launch of Street Fighter 5. It could easily have been the critical end of Capcom and its much-loved video games. But a change in the way Capcom made its games, supported by its powerful new RE Engine, gave these much-loved games series a new lease of life. This kickstarted years of critical and financial success that catapulted Capcom back into the big league.
