The Casio DW290 is a pretty durable tool watch with 200M WR and an awesome EL backlight all for a reasonable price. It's similar to the DW5600 in many ways except for the fact that's it's not a G-Shock so it's not quite as bomb proof. The G-Shock has more protection around the module as well as that rubberized coating on the case and the fact that the crystal is recessed in the bezel makes it harder to scratch. But the G-Shock also costs more so maybe that's okay.

Some could say it's an ugly watch and they might not be all that wrong. I've said before that it looks like the transporter pods from David Cronenberg version of The Fly! It does right? But there's something to the retro weirdness to like here.

It seems to have been around since at least the mid 90's and was still being made up until 2019. Crazy to think they've been making it for this long. There must be a reason? There must be a lot of people who like it! Well turns out there are a lot of famous people who love it including Tom Cruise (or I should say Ethan Hunt in the first Mission Impossible movie from 1996) and former FBI director Robert Mueller!
