I've been using shield mouse more often these days and it's been a great help against hammer warriors and minotaurs, and it works quite well against some AoE attackers like sorceress and goblin tanks. So this gameplay is just one of many examples to beat dragons and goblin tanks if for example you don't have them yourself. Everyone has dragonslayer, and shield mouse should be accessible by then, so mixing in the two when defending or attacking helps since shield mouse can take 1 full hit from goblin tanks before getting too close for it to fire, leaving time for the dragonslayer to run in and attack.
This comes with a lot of practice of placing units, and some of the maps will have a lot bigger spaces. I can safely say this was one of the better plays I've had since I started playing this game.
