Castle Itter - Playthrough, PC Version
A full playthrough of the basic version of "Castle Itter" from DVG Games, designed by David Thompson with art by Matt White. This is the digital version of the boardgame and is played on PC. The digital adaptation was done by Jeremy Zurcher.
Castle Itter is the 2nd game in Dan Verssen Games' Valiant Defense series, following Pavlov's House and (so far) being succeeded by Soldiers in Postmen's Uniforms and the upcoming Lanzerath Ridge. All four games are designed by David Thompson.
Castle Itter, subtitled "The Strangest Battle of World War II" is, like the other games in the series, based on an historical event - this time the defense of the titular castle in Itter, Austria by a force comprised of U.S. Army, Wehrmacht soldiers and assorted others (including an SS officer). The castle also held several French prisoners including a couple of former prime ministers and military commanders-in-chief. The main characters appear as units in the game: US Army Captain Jack Lee and his Sherman "Besotten Jenny" along with Wehrmacht Major Josef Gangl, SS officer Kurt Schrader and others (including the French prisoners).
As is the case with all of David Thompson's games, this one is fun but tough and the background & setting are phenomenal.
