Castlevania Chronicles is a good game, but also a very frustrating one. Unlike Super Castlevania IV, nothing in Chronicles feels fundamentally unfair (a la the 8-2 bridge), but nonetheless the combination of tricky platforming and highly punishing boss fights with simplistic, NES-style movement makes the difficulty creep along the very edge of being unfun, if not quite unfair. The crucial difference between Chronicles and Dracula's Curse is that the companions in Dracula's Curse and the power of certain subweapons (like Lightning and Holy Water) turn the game into more of a strategic experience. Chronicles is much more focused on stringent execution, but maintains simplistic movement.

Personally, I much prefer Bloodlines and Rondo, which also emphasize execution, but give their protagonists more flexible movement.
