Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Part 01
3Watch me play something I've wanted to do for quite a while: play through a hacked version of Simon's Quest for the NES!
The original version of the game was translated very poorly and on top of that, there is a mechanic in the game where some townsfolk straight up LIE to you which makes the game virtually unplayable without some kind of guide.
The hacks I added include:
* hearts are worth double (for less grinding)
* false floors are removed (for less annoyances)
* ability to jump through stairs (for faster traversal)
* English re-translation (for more accurate script to the Japanese version)
* Nicer font
* An in-game map! The Japanese game came with a map in the box, so this helps.
* Save feature (instead of using passwords)

I used to enjoy watching my best friend play this game for hours as a kid and I loved the music and the "Metroid-likeness" of the game where it was non-linear and some mysteries needed solving.
At the time of this recording, I was in-between homes, so my games and console are packed away at my father's house. So, to play this game, I used my MiSTer with an 8BitDo wireless receiver for the PS Classic and my Nintendo Online NES joycon controller. It worked really well!
