Following up from my previous Pokemon glitch on how to get Level 100 Nidoking before the first Gym Leader battle (see top right of the screen for link to that video), here is another Pokemon glitch. This time, we exploit a similar glitch so we can get a Level 1 Mew(!) before the second Gym Battle with Misty in Cerulean City. This can be done in all versions, as they all require the exact same steps. Just bear in mind, this can only be done once, as it involves defeating a specific trainer on Route 25.

Please refer to below as a short-form guide in how to get the glitch to work. Also use the timestamps provided to skip to any particular step.

0:02 Step 1: With a caught Abra, walk into view of trainer, and use 'Teleport' before he see you.
0:41 Step 2: Battle the 'Youngster' on Route 25, and use 'Growl' six times on his Slowpoke.
2:21 Step 3: Exit Route 25 to the West, exit your menu, and a wild Mew will appear.

It is important to bring up the menu screen BEFORE the Trainer Battle is triggered, and then use a 'Teleport' by a caught Abra in your party, to escape back to the last Poke Center used. Also, be sure not to have battled him previously, or else you can't perform this glitch. The Abra. You'll know it worked as the trainer will be alerted with the '!' icon, but the animation for 'Teleport' will still occur. You should also notice that you cannot open up the menu screen.

Head to Route 25 with all the trainers gathered, and find the 'Youngster' trainer who has only a Slowpoke in his party. Again, you must not have not battle him before. Also, DO NOT approach him by walking directly in front of him, or else the game will soft-lock. Instead, make sure he walks towards you, after triggering the battle. Start the battle as normal, and with a Pokemon that knows 'Growl', use it on his Slowpoke six times. This is important when getting your Mew at Level 1. Every time you use 'Growl', will effect what Level the wild Mew will be at. So using 'Growl' six times will reduce it's Level by six down to Level 1, where not using 'Growl' at all will keep it at Level 7. Just be careful not to get knocked out by Slowpoke. A good bet is to Paralyze it or put it to Sleep.

If all the steps have been done correctly, your menu screen should randomly appear upon leaving Route 25. Exit out of it, and you will immediately be put into a random battle encounter. Depending on how you do the prior steps, the Mew that appears will vary from Level 1 to Level 7, depending how many - or how little - times you used 'Growl' on that Slowpoke. As you can see from the footage, I had a bit of a difficult time trying to catch Mew, as it is technically a Legendary Pokemon. I didn't want to risk another move to finish it off, but anyway.

As shown in my previous Nidoking video, failing to get the required experience points to reach Level 2 in a battle, will automatically Level-Up Mew to Level 100! This is because technically the experience points accumulated by Mew upon catching it, are actually in the negative, causing the number to essentially 'wrap around' in a way that is not normally intended. Hence the glitch. Naturally, it is more useful to Level-Up Mew naturally, as it's stats will be much better when maxed-out. It also has the bonus of being able to learn any Technical Move (TM) or Hidden Move (HM) in the game.
