Cavalcadence plays Tempo 1: Keeps on Ticking (Crypt of the NecroDancer: AMPLIFIED)
Crypt of the NecroDancer (PC(W,M,L)/Steam)
AMPLIFIED DLC v2.54 (2017 Jul 12)
Cavalcadence plays Nocturna 14: All Zones Mode, cutscenes, & final bosses! (All Zones Mode: AMPLIFIED)
Achievement: Keeps on Ticking
Description: Complete "All Zones Mode" with solo Tempo (DLC Required)
So I decided to try out the other new character as well: Tempo... who's probably one of the Conductor's experiments or prototypes... or something. Anyway, like with Mary, my first several runs with Tempo were pretty bad, as I was mainly trying to figure out how the character worked. ^^;;
Apparently, the Crypt or the Conductor (or perhaps both!) has cursed Tempo with a 16-beat countdown. The countdown begins 1 beat after his first action on any level... and one beat after it reaches 0, it will kill him (so really, it's kind of like a 17-beat countdown). Whenever Tempo kills an enemy, however, the countdown resets to 16. So Tempo's kind of constantly in a 17-beat race to kill the next enemy... or reach the exit (which will reset the countdown to 16, at the beginning of the next level).
Of course, Tempo does have some advantages as well... a torch, a compass, and a telepathy effect (like Bat-Nocturna, Tempo can see all enemies!) for navigation... a blood dagger for healing damage taken while rushing for the next kill... and infinite damage(!) (or 50 or 99, or whatever it's actually defined as) to make getting that next kill a lot easier. =)
Oh, and the levels will have a LOT more enemies (extra enemies from various Zones, and an extra mini-boss)... which normally wouldn't be an advantage, but because of Tempo's countdown disadvantage... it is for him. ^^;
Overall, I found Tempo to be easier to get used to, compared to Mary... mostly because Mary requires learning new strategies for specific enemies... but Tempo can basically just use Cadence strategies for offense... and only has to learn 17-beat time management strategies (like intentionally letting enemies follow you for a while), so as not to run out of nearby enemies before the countdown passes 0. ^^
Tempo's definitely an interesting character, and can be a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll come back to him at some point... if only for some Low Percent attempts. ^^
Anyway, here's my first ever Tempo All Zones Mode win... hope you enjoy!

3:05 Flawless! Reward: (skipped for time, heh) Oh, if anybody's curious, opening a reward chest will actually reset Tempo's countdown! A few runs before this one, though, I miscalculated how many beats I had left, and Tempo actually died on the way to the reward chest! ^^; So for this run, I decided beforehand just to skip all of them (Tempo's pretty powerful even at Low Percent!). Now that I'm more comfortable with Tempo's timing, though, I'll likely go back to opening the rewards. Hmm, unless I try for a Low Percent win, that is... ^^
