Cavalex Models CM-56091-DCR | Class 56 Diesel Locomotive | 56091 DC Rail | OO Gauge | Review | HD
Here is my latest model train review and this is a special model train review video of the all new 2024 release of the brand new Cavalex Models Class 56 Diesel Locomotive of which my example is 56091 in the DC Rail livery. I chose this livery on the reasons that I have not covered this train operator before with the exception of 60028 in Cappagh Rail livery that was back in 2021.
This is the first time I have had a Class 56 in OO gauge since 2015 and this one is with no sound DCC ready version. The model is nice all round and the detail, features and quality is top notch. However you will need a 21 pin decoder with the right ISO settings on it to use all the light functions, so it would be best to buy the DCC or sound fitted model to benefit from this feature.
There is a downside to this model hence why I took off one point from the performance. I could not help but notice that the Class 56 with the new 8 tanker car test train that was my Revolution Trains TEA-L tankers in VTG Blue and Red livery, there was a slight struggle with the haulage and my model was slipping.
The reason for this is due to the power driven axles being set to the uncommon and unprotypical A1A that only gives the maximum of 4 driven axles which I feel does hinder traction on inclines. I strongly feel that Cavalex Models should have done the all wheel drive option like we see from Accurascale, Hornby Premium and Bachmann. Although the model train runs fine on flat model railway layouts.
My concern about the A1A set up is that would this hinder the performance on layouts with inclines for bridges or those with helixes? Or was I just unlucky with this example? I do plan to cover a sound fitted version later in the year that will likely be a Colas model and I really do hope that Cavalex Models will at least consider using the all wheel drive set up for maximum traction.
Apart from the traction issue, this is a very nice model train from Cavalex Models and I do feel that overall, a lot of effort has been put into the new Class 56 and it does supersede the other two previous offers that are dated and I am so glad there is no gimmicks like opening doors on this model which I felt spoiled the previous offer of a OO gauge Class 56 from 2007 when it was new elsewhere.
